The Purple Monstrosity, or The Barney Dress

So sorry - no picture :(

So, I was one of THOSE bridesmaids

You know the ones -- cursed with being forced to not only pay someone to sew but being forced to WEAR some hideous creation dreamed up by a bride who HAS to hate you.

We were friends with the groom

When they started dating, we became friends with the bride, too

Then, she asked me to be in her wedding.

"um, ok, um, I guess, um, sure"

Along came the pattern -- yikes!

A long, shapeless, hideous, concoction in gray-purple, sort of like watered-down grape gatorade

And I had to find someone to sew this for me

I paid over $100 for satin, lace, thread, zipper & another $100 to have someone sew it.

I looked like a pale, lacy Barney walking down the aisle

I still hear the song, "Here comes the purple monstrosity, here comes the purple monstrosity... dah, dah, dee, dah, dah, dee, dah, dah, dee, dumb"

I think I've destroyed every picture of that day & it went in the next yardsale I could find!

But I still have nightmares of walking into work wearing that nasty, dowdy, blobby dress; I still wake up in the middle of the night, scared that I walked into a church, or meeting, or party wearing the Barney Dress.

And, people who haven't known me very long wonder why I won't wear purple ;)

Were you one of THOSE bridesmaids?

Tell us all about it.

In case your child sleeps well & you want to shake things up, maybe generate nightmares, try this tutorial.

It is a clear tutorial & a cute idea.
My advice, ditch the nightmare inducing material

Designer Flop

She's got it right, this little designer number is dowdy;
proving that even designers can flub on a sewing project.
Way to go, Heidi Merrick!

Halloween is one thing

Reliving your days as a child beauty pageant entrant is quite another

Bomb at the Prom

At least she's smiling :)

Poor girl,

Why, oh, why didn't someone warn her?

Purple fru-fru and a garden of buttons, flowers, words, butterflies, etc. across the bodice

is NOT the way to make an elegant impression.

More pics of this prom number, wherein a girl and her mother

turned one article of clothing into a prom number.

What's NOT so Hot

Oh, sweety, someone should have stopped you.
This one was a disaster.

McCall's 3033 wrap doesn't really help you.
The hat, on the other hand, well, it's just mah-vuh-lus ;)
